Support the Petition: Establish a Legally Managed & HSE-Registered Electrical Safety Scheme

Welcome to Electrical-Safe

Protecting Families • Supporting Electricians • Strengthening Public Safety

Electricity is something we all rely on every day — yet it is silent, invisible, and gives no warning when something is wrong. Most people are surprised to learn that England and Wales do not have a legal register for electricians, meaning anyone can claim to be an electrician, even without training.

“An electrical-safe petition for an HSE-owned Electrical Safe Register, improving safety, enforcement and public protection across England and Wales.

In the 1990s, the government recognised the danger of unqualified gas work and introduced a legal gas register (now known as Gas Safe).
But no equivalent legal protection exists for electrical work — even though electrical faults continue to cause thousands of fires, injuries, and avoidable tragedies every year.

Our petition calls for a modern, fair, not-for-profit registration system, overseen by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), to protect both the public and the electrical profession.

Why This Matters to You

Safer Homes – A legal register ensures only properly competent, qualified people carry out electrical work.

Clear, Simple Identification – Just like checking a Gas Safe ID card, families can instantly verify a registered electrician.

Fairness for Responsible Professionals – Most electricians work to high standards. This scheme ensures they are recognised and trusted.

Confidence When Buying or Renting – Tenants, landlords, and homeowners can be reassured that electrical work is safe and compliant.

Why We Need Change

Since Part P became law in 2005, safety was expected to improve — but enforcement has been limited. Local Authorities rarely prosecute, so unsafe work often goes unchecked.

A statutory register would:

Strengthen safety

Improve transparency

Give people confidence in the electrical work done in their homes

What Electrical-Safe Proposes

The key aims are:
✔ Protect the public
✔ Support qualified electricians
✔ Ensure consistent training and assessment
✔ Provide a single, trusted national database
✔ Encourage higher safety standards across all homes

How You Can Help

If you believe families deserve better protection…
If you think qualified electricians should be recognised…
If you want safer homes for everyone in England and Wales…
