Benefits for Registered Members

The Electrical-Safe Register is designed to support members by providing a clear, fair, and nationally recognised standard.
It is not a commercial scheme — membership is provided on a not-for-profit basis with all members paying the exact same fee and the register itself is owned by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

This ensures that every electrician, from new entrants to highly experienced tradespeople, are treated fairly and consistently.

Respect for Grandfather Rights

Electrical-safe members shall have grandfather rights applied.
No competent, experienced skilled previous CPS member is excluded simply because they qualified under earlier systems or via different pathways.

Grandfather rights are respected.

However, to ensure Electrical Safe standards of competency and of membership all members must still demonstrate high knowledge, skill, competency and practical standards.

This protects the reputation of Electrical Safe, of the electrical profession, but most important of all safety.

Fair Assessments Based on Experience

Every member is assessed according to their experience, on site competence, CPD and not just qualifications as some are really what the industry needs, sadly some look good on paper but in the real world are not fit for purpose.

The system supports all professionals through:

  • 1-year assessments for newer members or those gaining new skills

  • 3-year assessments for consistently competent skilled members

  • 5-year assessments for long-standing, trusted members with strong compliance, competency and highly skilled work membership records

This fare structure rewards professionalism and reduces unnecessary repeat paperwork office inspections asking for documentation which members can up-load but still are required to produce. This achieves, exactly, not a single thing well besides wasting valuable time so therefore why check it again.

Stopping the Race to the Bottom — Fair, Fixed Prices

One of the strongest benefits for members is the introduction of fixed national prices for legally required documents one example are landlords who have to have their rented properties inspected and tested every 5 years or less.

This prevents unsafe undercutting and restores value to electrical work.

Fixed pricing helps:

Protect professional rates

Stop unsafe “cut-price” practices

Improve overall quality, all to the same exact standards

Provide fairness across England and Wales

Remove downward pressure on legitimate contractors

By setting standardised maximum fees for legal documentation, members are not forced into competing on dangerously low pricing for essential safety work.
